Rona Mac (she/her) is an independent musician, songwriter, and producer based in the most westerly tip of mainland Wales. She writes songs that feel real to her in the hope that they’ll resonate with others. With a do-it-yourself attitude, Rona handles everything from songwriting to booking, mixing to publishing. Her approach is all about grit, graft, and a bit of grin. She works out of an old touring caravan, recording, performing, and producing over the winter months, when she finds herself between storms.

Primarily an alt-folk artist, Rona’s music occasionally drifts into alt-pop and indie. Her songs are deeply lyrical and often sentimental, balancing guitar and vocals with equal weight and intention. Writing from her personal experiences, Rona crafts songs that explore universal human emotions. Her sound has been compared to artists like Adrienne Lenker, Phoebe Bridgers, Joni Mitchell, Ben Howard, and Billie Marten. On stage, she uses loop pedals, synths, beatboxing, and effects in a minimalist setup that puts her storytelling at the forefront.

Rona’s career highlights include playing support for well-regarded acts such as Willy Mason, Billie Marten, and Katy J Pearson. After the release of her most recent album, she embarked on a self-booked tour across the UK and Europe, playing 20 shows in 30 days—a logistical achievement she takes great pride in. Her music has been featured on BBC Radio 1 and 6, and she has received praise in publications like Clash and Wonderland Magazine. Rona has also benefitted from various funding opportunities, including PRS Woman Make Music and Help Musicians, which she credits for helping her get to where she is today.

Outside of music, Rona enjoys surfing, walking her high-maintenance dog, and, of course, writing more music. She also embraces the label of being a "lesbian cliché" with pride.

RONA MAC performs at St Mary’s Church on Friday 21 March, see schedule here
